Drawing in SketchUp

Objects you draw in SketchUp are made up of edges and faces. You draw the edges and when they form a closed loop a face is created. If there is a gap in the edges, then a face will not be formed.

There are options you can choose about whether or not to show the edges, and the colours and textures for the faces.

Rules for Drawing

There are 4 main things to remember when drawing in SketchUp:
You must draw a closed loop of edges to form a surface. The edges must all be in the same plane

Use inference points. If you start to draw a line, then hover the mouse over a point you want to line up with, SketchUp will draw a dotted line to help you line it up properly.

Inference points are coloured. Endpoints have green dots, mid-points have blue dots, anywhere else has a red dot. There is a black dot where two edges cross.

Draw to and from existing edges. Never draw a continuous line across an edge. If you need to cross an edge, draw your line in two segments.
