BE A ROBOT YOURSELF

  • UC Berkeley and US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA, you might recognise that name from ARPAnet) have designed a set of computer-driven exoskeleton for Army personnel. You wear it: it senses position and motion and uses it to operate a set of motorised "legs" that surround the user's real legs, allowing far greater forces to be exerted.
You can read about it http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2004/03/03_exo.shtml
  • The Berkeley Robotics laboratory has more information.
  • Although this was designed by the US Defense Department for military use, think of some other ways that it could be used.
  1. Write about 100 words on how you could use an exoskeleton part to make your life better.
  2. Format your information to be 14 pt font size on an A4 page using double line spacing and landscape layout.
  3. Use an art or drawing package to draw a picture of your robotic modification.
  4. Place your picture on the right hand side of your information page.
  5. Place a footer including your name and class on the page.
