Mashups are where you combine two or more pieces of pre-existing pieces of content to make something new.
 |
There are many ways that you can create mashups. Some of these include:
- Video and/or Audio mashups where you produce a new video or audio piece by combining clips from other videos or podcasts etc
- Digital Posters using tools such as Glogster or Nota
- Webpage mashups where you embed existing content such as images, videos, audio, maps, data etc onto either a blog, Facebook page or an entirely new page
- Map mashups where you embed web content into Google Earth or Bing Maps
All of these have powerful application in the classroom. |
Do I Need to Use Code?
Usually when creating mashups you are just copying and pasting code that you get given. Nevertheless, it is helpful, but by no means essential, if you know some basic html. This enables you to make fine adjustments or understand when things don't quite work the way you expected.
 |
When creating a mashup to share with others, your content must already be published somewhere on the web. If you want to include original content of your own, you will need to publish it somewhere.
You can publish your content on any one of many sharing sites, or you can host your content in a public folder on a Windows Live Skydrive or on Google Docs, but it is important to ensure that it is shared publicly so that your audience will be able to view it. |
