An important technique in Flash is putting a 'movie in a movie'. You
can do this by using a Movie Clip Symbol.
Open a new Flash document. From the menus choose Insert > New
Symbol
Name it star and choose Movie clip type
The symbol editor will open.
Select the polygon tool, and a suitable fill colour. No stroke.
Draw a shape and if it's not already a symbol, convert it to a symbol.
Align it to the centre of the area. (Ctrl K will open the alignment
panel)
Add in a keyframe at frame 24.
Right click anywhere between frames 1 and 24 and choose Create Motion Tween.
In properties, select Rotate CW (clockwise) and 1 time.
Press enter to test your movie clip symbol.
Now close the Symbol editor and return to your main movie by clicking Scene 1
Drag your star from the library onto the stage. (If you
can't see the library press Ctrl-L)
Press Ctrl-enter to play your movie. Your star should spin
in one place.
Now insert a keyframe at frame 40.
Click on frame 40, and drag your star to another place on the
stage. Right click on the timeline between frames 1 and 40 and choose
Create Motion Tween.
Now press Ctrl-Enter test your finished movie. (If you
only press Enter, you will not see the movie clip effect)
You can use Movie Clip Symbols for any action that repeats
continually with movement, for example to make wings flap for a bird or the
wheels rotate for a car or legs move for walking.
