Now we will look at adding different surfaces to the objects we create. You will need to open a previously saved, rendered object or else create a new object and render it (F12). (Don't forget lighting)
By default all Blender objects are grey until they have a material added.

To change the surface colour:

Open the materials panels (click the button or press F5) You may not see many buttons yet - we need to create a material. |

Press and hold down the menu button in Link to Object. |

Choose ADD NEW from the popup. |

Either click on Col and pick your colour, or drag the sliders to mix your own colour. |

Then press the car button This is important to help you keep track of your materials in larger projects. |
If you render now (F12) you should see the material appear on your object. You can try experimenting with some of the other settings to see what effect they have. |
